Yoga Philosophy & Study

Yoga's highest goal is the realisation of our essential nature. The field of yoga is the mind and through yoga practice we come to master this sense. Its result should see our increasing discernment in living fully in the world and wisdom in reducing the causes of our suffering.

Yoga's tools, āsana, prāṇāyama, dhyāna, mantra, bhāvanā and mūdra are employed to prepare the individual's whole constitution for the discipline that is required in mastering mind.

Yoga's journey may be described as cultivation of the self. Yoga practised with sustained and enthusiastic method creates increasing mental clarity. This is turn encourages discrimination to grow.

The seminal work which explains this philosophy is

the Yoga Sūtras of Patañjali.
